Yoga’s 8 Limbs - Yoga Philosophy We hear it time and time again. Someone began their yoga journey considering ONLY the physical part of the practice - the asana. It’s what you do whenever you step on your mat in a yoga class. THEN, magic happens. The more you return to your mat, the more you move and breathe and let yourself release the outside world - the more you understand what yoga truly is. Yoga is UNION. The connection of the body and the mind. Beyond the movement, the breath, the meditation - there’s yoga philosophy.Today, we are chatting about Yama. Yama is how you show up in the world - it’s how you treat the world around you and yourself. These Yama are: Non-violence and non-harming in thought, word, and deed toward others and yourself. Satya: Truthfulness and honesty, communicated with kindness and clarity. Asteya: Non-stealing, which includes not taking material things, credit, or time that isn't yours. Brahmacharya: Moderation, right use of energy, and reigning in sensory overindulgence. Aparigraha: Non-attachment, non-greed, and letting go of hoarding or clinging to possessions. They are an invitation for you to witness how you show up in the world and show up better - for yourself and others.
