Teachers’ Talk e’ve had LOTS of changes recently at the studio. You may have seen some new faces. “Let me introduce myself” - Alexis, Anissa and Bella. Scavenger Hunt - what does Pranayama mean? Reply for a prize! Anisa Hi all. 🙂 My name is Anissa, and i am your local fairy friend. I am a lady of many traits, a true Scorpio some might say. 210 is where I’m from and it’s where I’ve been able to plant my roots as an individual. I honor the city where I’m from because it has molded me into the individual I am today. Being Latina af, I take honor in my culture and it plays a big part of how I choose to curate certain offerings. Outside of the studio you’ll probably see me out at local events just enjoying the vibes with my beautiful friends. Or perhaps maybe taking myself on a lunch or dinner date. I also enjoy random lore facts, I think they are fun and can tell a lot about a person. I love animals and hope to open a rehabilitation center one day or in one life, or a chihuahua rescue. 🙂

Alexis Bello Hello beautiful people, I’m Alexis and am excited to join House of RhythOM as your new Community Events & Engagement Coordinator. My background blends athletic performance, mindfulness, and community building. As a competitive track athlete for over 10 years, I developed a deep appreciation for the connection between the body, mind, and the power of intentional movement. That journey eventually led me into the world of holistic wellness, where I became a certified meditation instructor and began exploring different ways we can support our overall well being utilizing sound. After spending the past two years studying Music Therapy at the University of the Incarnate Word, I recently transitioned my studies to Psychology with a minor in Music. I’m passionate about understanding the connection between the mind, music, wellness, and creating experiences that help people connect; both with themselves and with those around them. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to guide various meditation classes, organize wellness events, and witness the incredible impact that movement, music, mindfulness, and community can have on people’s lives. I believe that true wellness extends beyond the studio walls, and I’m excited to create opportunities for our members to build meaningful relationships, celebrate milestones, and experience the unique sense of community that makes House of RhythOM so special. I can’t wait to meet each of you, hear your stories, and help create events/experiences that bring even more rhythm, connection, and joy to our community.

Bella Hello ! My name is Bella Pizzoferrato and I am overjoyed to be apart of the House of RhythOM family ! My yoga journey started back in my sophomore year of highschool, when I decided to take a yoga class as a PE credit thinking it would be easier and less intense than gym class. However, it was quite the opposite. It challenged me both mentally and physically, but it quickly became a practice I returned to again and again. Anytime there was a free period or moment to escape class, I was in the yoga room. I struggled a lot in highscool. Between my mental health, family situations, friendship drama and the pressures of school in general, it was not the best time for me. Yoga was my quiet space I could come to when things got to hard to handle. I have had a longtime struggle with my mental health. Yoga has helped me greatly. I was drawn to teaching because I wanted to help others who have struggled similarly. To guide others through a practice that has helped me to calm the storms of my mind. To give them the tools they need to be able to ride the waves of their own struggles. I have now been teaching yoga for a little over a year, and it has proven to be one of the most fufilling and rewarding experiences I have ever had. Every student, every class, every hour spent in this space is never lost on me. I am so incredibly grateful to be in the position I am in today. To be able to work with, for and alongside each of you is something I never expected to experience, but is one of the biggest joys in my life. Outside of teaching and being a full time college student, I am big into crafts. I go back and forth between all different types, lately I have been really into diamond art. Diamond art are these little gems you place on a sticky page one at a time to reveal a picture. There are thousands of these little gems. It can take weeks to finish the entire thing, which can sound boring and time consuming, but it has honestly been very meditative for me ! Besides Diamond art I also love to knit, embroider ( mostly cross stitch ) and scrapbook ! Anything creative and handmade is right up my alley. If I am not crafting, I am most likely reading, thrifting, or napping ! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I would absolutely love to have you in one of my classes !

Yoga’s 8 Limbs - Meditation When you hear the word meditate or meditation, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? For many, people imagine meditation as sitting quietly with no thoughts in your mind. The truth is meditation can take various shapes. Yoga asana practice can feel like a form of meditation since you’re taking time to move with your breath. Think back to a physical practice where you existed fully in that moment. There wasn’t an opportunity to think about what happened before or what was coming next. Pranayama (breath control), which we discussed two months ago, can also feel like a form of meditation. You’re providing yourself an opportunity to be purely in the moment with your breath. The beauty of being human is we have the capability to remember the past and plan for the future. This beautiful thing can also cause depression and anxiety when we’re not existing in the present moment. Meditation is an opportunity to be fully in the present moment. You witness your thoughts and your emotions without engaging with them. In a way, it’s as if you’re watching a show. Thoughts and emotions arise without an effect on you. Want to go deeper? Thank YOU, House of RhythOM Community On July 22nd, the San Antonio Current announced House of RhythOM as a finalist for Best Yoga Studio in San Antonio. We are incredibly grateful to have YOU as a part of our community. As we continue to grow and evolve, we would like you along for the journey. Please continue to show up for yourself, take part in the fun challenges, and use your voice to share your feedback. Let’s hear it now. Tell us one thing you’re loving lately.

We’re all celebrating the upcoming graduation of our current yoga teacher training group. The evolution this group has experienced is profound. As the lead instructor, I got to see, hear and experience these shifts first hand. The beautiful aspect is this shift didn’t just occur in their yoga asana practice alone, the shift hit ALL areas of their life. What happens in yoga teacher training? Let’s talk about the obvious and some not so obvious. Deepen into understanding of yoga asanas (postures) Understand how to teach a yoga class Learn the history of yoga Learn various breathwork practices and meditation Become aware of how you show up in your relationships Become aware of how you’re currently showing up for yourself in life Learn the philosophy of yoga Understand how the body and bodily systems react to a yoga practice And, that’s not all! How will yoga teacher training impact you? Register for Pathways to Teaching: YTT Open House & Q&A on Saturday, August 8th at 5:30pm to dive deeper.
