Keep reading for our Scavenger Hunt* Feel the OM: Sacred Valley Immersion (Yoga Retreat) Hurray, it's June! Pride month. A beautiful pathway in time to connect with one’s self through intentional, sacred community. In yoga philosophy, sangha (a term that can be traced back to Buddhism) refers to a “community” or “gathering”. The kind that nourishes your soul and sets your heart on fire. There is a tender beauty in embracing yourself within a like-minded community. After all, we can only meet others as deeply as we have met ourselves. The yoga mat becomes a place to meet oneself, to accept oneself, and to expand the borders of one’s Self-concept. It is here, on the mat, that we begin to notice what we carry.

As we practice, we are visited by many little visitors…thoughts, feelings, sensations, emotions. Often, they live inside us, even though they aren’t meant to. They are just here to visit, to teach, to leave. But when fear, anger, or pain, or the feeling of being very alone, arises on the mat, it is the sangha surrounding you that reminds you–I am You. You are Me. It is the conscious, collective breath that ushers the visitors on their way. And slowly, that transformation follows us beyond the mat. What you meet on the mat–and what you transform on the mat–is carried to the front desk of the yoga studio where students gather and banter. It is carried behind the wheel of the car as you drive home, or to the grocery store, or to work. It is carried to bed at night in the words you speak to yourself as you drift to sleep. In this way, sangha begins to contextualize the human experience as a collective one. And perhaps this is why sangha matters so deeply. At its core, sangha is deeply inclusive. All may come just as they are. When you enter sangha, a collective energy radiates through–one that lights you up from within and guides your soul home. It is a curious paradox that when one can be fully themselves (in sangha), their world begins to transform. Or rather, it becomes clearer. The things that don’t matter become a little more hushed, a little more obscure. Your mind suspends judgement as your heart grows little tendrils that reach to the Others in your sangha. You see yourself in every face and feel your heartbeat in every chest. You are no longer alone. *How do you embrace community?

Belonging at House of RhythOM When we first envisioned the foundation of House of RhythOM, we knew it had to be more than just a place to practice movement. We wanted to build a sanctuary. In a world that often feels fast-paced and disconnected, our vision was to create a home where every individual could step onto their mat, tune into the rhythm of their own breath, and feel an undeniable sense of grounding. At the very core of our studio are three steady pillars: Acceptance, Connection, and Belonging. Acceptance means arriving exactly as you are. There is no expectation to perform, no standard to meet—just a space to honor your mind, your body, and your personal journey in this moment. Connection is the magic that happens when we flow together. It’s the shared energy in the room, the collective heartbeat of a class, and the deep relationship we cultivate with our inner selves through rhythm and mindfulness. Belonging is the ultimate destination. It is the deep, comforting realization that you are an essential part of this collective fabric. You are seen, you are valued, and you are home. Because these values form the baseline of everything we do, we believe our responsibility to cultivate them doesn't stop at our studio doors. True community extends outward into our local neighborhood, lifting up those who need it most.

Thrive Youth Center It is this exact shared heartbeat that has led us to a deeply meaningful partnership with Thrive Youth Center. Based right here in San Antonio, Thrive Youth Center is an incredible non-profit organization dedicated to supporting a heavily marginalized and vulnerable part of our community. Their mission is to provide LGBTQ+ young adults experiencing homelessness with a safe, affirming, and supportive environment. For so many of these youth, the world has denied them the basic human needs of acceptance and belonging due to family rejection or hardship. Thrive steps in to change that narrative. They are far more than just an emergency shelter; they offer rapid rehousing, dedicated case management, mental health support, and life skills assistance. They provide a vital sanctuary where young adults can heal from trauma, celebrate their true identities, and gain the resources they need to flourish and build independent futures. Just as we strive to make House of RhythOM a safe harbor for your mind and body, Thrive Youth Center creates a literal and emotional safe harbor for youth who deserve to be celebrated for exactly who they are. We are incredibly honored to partner with Thrive, aligning our collective energy to support their mission of empowerment and equity. Join us for PRIDE month and make a donation to Thrive. For the month of June, every dollar donated for our donation based classes will be matched and donated to Thrive Youth Center. Thank you for being the heartbeat of our studio, and for helping us extend our rhythm of love, acceptance, and connection far beyond the mat.
