My name is Alexa and I was born and raised here in San Antonio, TX. I found yoga in the early months of 2015 and instantly fell in love with both the physical and mental aspects that yoga provided me. In 2018 I felt the calling to embark on the journey of teacher training in hopes of becoming a teacher and decided to receive my 200-hour certification in Uvita, Costa Rica under the School of Authentic Movements.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I first stepped into House of RhythOM as a student when the studio first opened and immediately felt the magic of the space and its community. Life soon took me away from San Antonio for a few years, but when I returned, I knew I wanted to get back into teaching—and I found my way back to House of RhythOM, this time as a teacher. I’m so grateful to share and grow with this community that first welcomed me as a student! My mission is to create a fun and inviting environment for students that encourages them to safely play with poses while finding what authentically feels good to their unique selves. My intention for all my students is to leave class with a sense of purpose and inspiration that encourages them to love their bodies and build their own physical and mental strength within themselves. Remember—you are your own healer! My classes are fun, strength-building, set to invigorating music, and will definitely make you sweat and leave feeling amazing!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Yoga Philosophy & Pride Month Pride Month represents a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community and a time to honor individuality, to advocate for equality and to recognize the power of love and compassion. As yogis applying the philosophy of yoga, we can use these powerful tools for cultivating a truly inclusive and accepting world. In compassion, openness, respect, support, and non-judgement, we fully embrace this month and the full human experience. For many years, we have partnered with Thrive Youth Center as a way to bring awareness and support a cause dear to us. “4.2 million youth in the United States experience homelessness each year. LGBTQ+ youth are 120% more likely to experience homelessness due to family conflicts, rejection, aging out of the foster care system, and poverty.” Join us in supporting these youth by attending a donation based flow, purchasing a Pride sticker or making a direct donation through the link below.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Kayla Signing up for my 200 YTT was the beginning of a whole new life for me. While my intention was to learn about the physical postures to improve my personal practice, what I actually received was invaluable. My training took me to the depths of my soul, not only learning about the mental, emotional and spiritual effects of the practice, it provided me with a mirror. I became able to see myself through a new, loving lens and it’s changed the way I show up in EVERY way. My relationship with myself, my family, friends and even strangers. I’ve adopted SANTOSHA, pure contentment, recognizing that is the path towards true bliss. This journey is far more than a simple training, it’s SOUL deep. If you feel the call, then we’re here to support you on your journey Juliet Taking a yoga teacher training was a transformative experience that helped me heal and reconnect with myself on a deeper level. Through the practice, self-reflection, and teachings, I began to release emotional blocks and rebuild a healthier, more compassionate relationship with myself. For the first time, I feel like I truly listened to my body, honored my inner voice, and embraced who I was without judgment. Before starting the training, I felt uncertain about my path and lacked a sense of true purpose. But as I immersed myself in the journey, I discovered a genuine passion for yoga, teaching, and personal growth—something I hadn’t experienced before. It was more than just a certification; it was the beginning of a new, more aligned chapter of my life.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Alexa Enrolling in yoga teacher training was the turning point that led me into an entirely new chapter of my life. Although I had a steady practice and appreciated the physical benefits of yoga, I had no idea how profoundly transformative the training would be. It challenged me in the most beautiful and unexpected ways—shifting how I moved, how I thought, and ultimately how I showed up in the world. It helped me peel back layers, uncover my most authentic self, and find a voice I didn’t know I had. I carry the impact of that experience with me every single day, and I truly wouldn’t be who I am without it. ✨ Laura Being a ‘yes’ for yoga teacher training was completely out of my comfort level, and I tried my hardest to tell myself why it just wasn’t for me over and over and over…all excuses. In actuality, it was the fear of the unknown. I finally told myself it’s now or never and I took the leap! YTT was the most freeing and healing gift to my mind, body and inner self that I didn’t know I needed. I unlearned the past and re-learned to meet myself here and now as is, to embrace the present moment to its fullest , and always do your best per The Four Agreements which was such a significant read and moment during YTT. This training not only deepened my practice but it was a sacred journey to and for my heart that guides me on and off my mat. Know that you are ready, you are supported and each of you are already loved. I can’t wait to meet you!</image:caption>

Beyond that, it profoundly impacted my personal journey, helping me discover strength and purpose within my own yoga practice. This new found foundation has since empowered me to serve as a mentor and teacher to other yogis, allowing me to find strength and inspiration in their practices as well. Are you curious? <image:caption>Unlocking Inner Peace: The Ancient Wisdom of Breathwork (Pranayama) Have you ever noticed how your breath changes with your mood? Short and shallow when stressed, deep and slow when relaxed? This isn't a coincidence – it's a profound connection that ancient yogis understood thousands of years ago. In the vast tapestry of yoga philosophy, beyond the physical postures (asanas) we often associate with yoga, lies the incredible power of Pranayama – the conscious control of our breath. The word "Pranayama" itself is a beautiful fusion: "Prana" meaning life force or vital energy, and "Ayama" meaning extension or control. It's not just about inhaling and exhaling; it's about harnessing the very essence of our existence. Why is this ancient practice so relevant today? In today's fast-paced world, stress, anxiety, and scattered minds are common. Pranayama offers a powerful antidote, a path to: Calm your nervous system: Shift from "fight or flight" to relaxation, hitting the reset button for mind and body. Enhance mental clarity and focus: Clear mental fog, improving concentration and decision-making. Boost energy and vitality: Invigorate your body, improving circulation and oxygen flow. Cultivate emotional regulation: Observe and navigate emotions with greater awareness and less reactivity. Deepen your yoga practice (and your life!): Connect mind, body, and spirit on a deeper level, with benefits rippling into every aspect of your daily life.</image:caption>

Rather than focusing on how poses look, the emphasis is on how they feel—inviting a deeper connection between breath, sensation, and intention. Through creative sequencing and mobility-focused practices, sessions are designed to enhance functional movement, increase body awareness, and support freedom in both stillness and flow. This approach encourages exploration over perfection, allowing each session to meet you exactly where you are. Are you ready for more? <image:caption>Your Personal Practice: Hacking Life with Yoga & Mindfulness Let's be honest. In this hyper-caffeinated, always-on world, finding a moment of genuine chill feels like winning the lottery. But here's the dirty secret: the game-changing power of yoga and mindfulness—think less stress, laser focus, and actually knowing yourself—isn't some New Age luxury. It's an absolute necessity. And the real magic? It's not locked in some studio or meditation cushion. It's in how you inject this stuff into your everyday chaos. So, how do people actually get this done, beyond the occasional downward dog or fleeting "om" moment? It's about building a "personal practice"—your own bespoke toolkit for staying sane and thriving. Beyond the Mat: What Does "Infusing" Really Mean? Forget the idea that "infusing" means becoming a full-time yogi or meditating until you levitate. It's really about: Mindful Movement: Not just your yoga flows, but bringing your A-game attention to every damn thing your body does. Walking? Stretching? Chores? Own it. Conscious Breathing: Your secret weapon. Use your breath to hit the reset button before that nightmare meeting, when traffic's making you hulk out, or to just actually feel a good moment. Intentional Pauses: These are your micro-escapes. Step away from the screen for sixty seconds, actually taste your coffee, or just tune into the noise around you. Short, sharp, effective. Self-Compassion & Awareness: Stop judging yourself, already. Observe your mental dumpster fire without judgment, spot your patterns, and for once, treat yourself like someone you actually like. Even when you're messing up.</image:caption>

This month, our teachers share what personally speaks to them. Gabby My favorite way to practice yoga is through vinyasa. I love how the breath seamlessly weaves into each movement, transforming the flow into a moving meditation. Every practice, I find my mind growing quiet, my body softening, and my heart opening. What I appreciate most about vinyasa is how it meets me exactly where I am, whether I’m seeking strength, release, or stillness, and always guides me back to a deeper connection with myself.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Beat Drop Vol 5 September 2025 - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Pang I love practicing power vinyasa because it's really where strength meets flow. It challenges my body with intensity while grounding my mind through breath and movement - leaving me sweaty, centered, and recharged wanting more. Every practice feels like a gift, a gift of moving meditation - equal parts discipline, release, and empowerment. Natalie Lately I’ve been going into my backyard and rolling my mat out on the back patio in the sunshine. I start with stillness, bringing awareness to the breath, and connecting my body to the energies of earth and sky. I often start low to the ground.Movement begins intuitively, linking the breath. I rest when I want. Have sips of coffee. I do what feels good when it feels good to do it. Sometimes what feels good is silence, meditation, nidra… sometimes it is an active and strong asana practice, shedding heaviness and stagnancy. Alignment lives at the top of the sin curve, punctuating a vinyasa sequence at the peak of the wave - then rising and cresting into another new cycle of breath. Bringing breathwork, mudra, drishti, and bandhas elevates a regular practice to a ritual healing cleanse. When the body’s energetic and physical sheaths align, channels clear and allow the energies of earth and sky to converge and commingle within. The Earth holds me in her strength and the sky charges me with her light. Yoga=Union.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Beth My favorite type of yoga to teach has evolved over the years! I used to be 100% an ashtanga vinyasa/power girlie, but in recent years, my interests have shifted. While I still love to teach a strong power or vinyasa, I am very interested in the interplay of sympathetic and parasympathetic activation of the nervous system as one travels through their practice experience. All that to say, I love to teach in a way that empowers each student to honor their personal context to their practice while still offering challenges to the cardiovascular system and body. What is beautiful to me is that yoga can meet you where you are at individually. Above all, I love to teach in a way that gives students permission to take what they need or want, and leave the rest. As the beautiful Mel Marie says, "Yoga does what yoga does," and the power is in the practice, not the shapes in and of themselves. :) Apart from asana, my recent hyperfixations in yoga are the koshas and chakras...the energetic body. :) AK My favorite way to practice yoga is in community with my yoga homies. There’s something so special about moving, breathing, sharing energy alongside friends and strangers alike.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Yoga Teacher Training - Looking Ahead Our very first yoga teacher training kicked off in mid-September, and we're so excited to welcome seven amazing students. When we started this program, we agreed on a few key things that would set us apart: We would cap our class sizes to build strong relationships and ensure everyone feels included. We would mentor our students, not just churn them out. We would have a special focus on music. We would provide the tools for success, including the business side of yoga. We're excited to see these principles in action with our current and future students. Interested in a scholarship? Please email Nasreen at admin@houseofrhythom.com. Our next training is scheduled to begin in March, so be sure to get your name in early!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Zero-Fuss Zen: Grounded & Grateful (The 5-Minute Edition) Tired of feeling like you’re on a hamster wheel? Grounding and gratitude are your cosmic chill pills. No gurus, no fancy yoga pants—just simple, low-effort ways to stop your brain from running a marathon. Get Grounded: Stop, Drop, and Feel Your Feet Grounding is about getting present and stable. Your yoga mat is the anchor. Feel Your Feet: Wiggle your toes. Seriously. Right now. Whether you're in Mountain Pose or just standing, that solid connection to the floor is gravity earning its paycheck. The Real Downward Dog: Forget straight legs. In Adho Mukha Svanasana, bend your knees a lot. Push your chest toward your thighs. That stable "V" is instant grounding. The Reset Breath: Take three deep belly breaths, exhaling like you're trying to fog up a window. Instant chill. That's your reset button.Get Grateful: Be Thankful the Moment Isn't Awful True gratitude means acknowledging that something isn't the worst. It’s about appreciating the small stuff. Thank Your Knees: Those hardworking little joints put up with everything. In Child's Pose (Balasana), give them a moment of appreciation. The Un-Sucky Moment: Find one thing that doesn't irritate you. The smell of coffee, the fact that your socks match. That small win is genuine gratitude. The Savasana Glow: Be grateful for the sweet, brain-melting stillness of Savasana. You made it! It's the most productive nothing you'll do all day. Stop overthinking it. You're breathing, you're here, and you're now grounded. You're welcome.</image:caption>

<image:caption>4pm with Kayla Yoga nidra “Mirroring the stillness of the season, this class offers a sanctuary of deep, guided relaxation. Yoga Nidra, or "yogic sleep," allows the body to settle into a state of profound rest while the mind remains awake and aware. It is the ultimate act of hibernation—a chance to reset your nervous system and find warmth and light within, even on the shortest days of the year. 5:30pm with Gabby Winter Solstice Yin Yoga In the deepest part of the year, our bodies seek rest and conservation. Yin Yoga meets this need by inviting you to hold passive, supported postures for several minutes. This practice targets the deep connective tissues (fascia) around the hips, pelvis, and spine—areas linked to the Water element of Winter. It’s an essential practice for deep joint health, introspection, and nourishing your energy reserves during the coldest months. 7pm with Pang Astral tai chi - a soundscape experience Step into the stillness of the Winter Solstice with Pang, Level One Certified Sound Healer, for an immersive 90-minute journey that blends the ancient flow of Tai Chi with the restorative vibrations of sound healing. This experience invites you to slow down, soften your body, and expand your awareness through crafted movement, breath, and harmonic resonance.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Life's Little Secret “I’m doing intermittent fasting, and I’ve lost 5 pounds already.” “I’ve never felt more fit than when I was running.” “Have you tried taking a hot bath before bed? It’s supposed to help you sleep deeper.” We live in a world overflowing with information. Not so long ago, it was well-meaning friends and neighbors who offered tips on how to live a healthier, fuller life. Now, we’re inundated by information from every corner of the internet, with social media influencers and wellness gurus explaining how the latest trendy diet, biohack, or supplement will change your life, will fill the void, and will help you thrive. It’s exhausting just keeping up! Every day seems to bring a new, absolute truth about well-being. So, what advice are you actually supposed to follow? And how do you discern what is a genuine help versus what is just noise? The Secret: The Void Isn't Filled by a Formula Here’s the secret: There is NOT a one-size-fits-all approach. We are all so very unique in the lives we lead, the environment we're in, and the lineage we come from. Your genetics, your stress levels, your work schedule, your family dynamics—they all play a role in how your body responds to food, exercise, and sleep. Following a plan that worked wonders for a 25-year-old single influencer might be completely unsustainable and even detrimental to a working parent with a demanding career and an hour-long commute. It can be incredibly hard to discern what will work best for you specifically. The truth is, all those tips and tricks are simply distractions from the deeper work. They keep you focused on the next thing rather than the right thing.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My Advice as a Health Coach: Consider Distractions and Move Away from Them Instead of searching for the perfect formula or the next quick fix, let's simplify. My core advice is this: Identify the distractions and move away from them. Often, the most profound changes come not from adding something new, but from removing the complexity that prevents you from listening to your own body. Focus on Actionable Shifts: Instead of choosing an all-or-nothing approach to eating (like a super-strict diet that feels restrictive and leaves you feeling guilty), eat closer to nature. Prioritize simple, whole foods. Add a vegetable to every meal. Remove the distraction of counting, tracking, and restricting, and focus on nutrient density and simple joy in your food. Instead of jumping into the next high-intensity workout craze (which could lead to burnout or injury), focus on finding movement you genuinely enjoy. Maybe it’s a daily walk, gentle stretching, or dancing in your kitchen. Remove the distraction of extreme performance and honor your body's current energy levels. Instead of relying on a sleep supplement or a rigid "sleep routine" (that feels like another chore), look at what you are doing in the hour before you wind down. Remove the distraction of screens, bright lights, and work-related thoughts to allow your nervous system to naturally transition to rest. The "secret" isn't found in someone else's highlight reel or in a complicated set of rules. It is found in the consistent, simple, and intuitive choices that respect your unique needs. Start by removing one distraction, and watch how much clearer the path to your own well-being becomes.</image:caption>

Teacher’s Talk: New Year & YOU January Events Yoga at Home - Part 4 - Manifest with Meditation Welcome Hot Mat Pilates Peru - Here WE COME! Yoga Teacher Training Personal Experience Keep reading for our Scavenger Hunt New Year & You We all approach a new calendar year differently. Our teachers share what they do when asked: Do you have resolutions? How do you goal set? What about you? How do you goal set or approach a new year? Respond to this scavenger hunt question for a prize. Nasreen’s Insight “Instead of looking at the start of the year as the only time to make change, I plan intentions throughout the year. A LOT can change in a year, so being able to flow with change and plan a new intention for the coming weeks or months is tremendously easier than the all or nothing approach.” Pang’s Insight “Make a list, stick it somewhere that is visible to me everyday. And around that goal, I would often write positive affirmations over time to keep me on track to ensure that my goal is within reach/track.”</image:caption>

In 2026, I’m committing to a more purposeful life—one rooted in emotional growth, spiritual connection, and compassion for myself.” Ashley’s Insight “I don’t really do resolutions but I do like to write down a few intentions for the year and put them in a little bowl. Whenever I feel like I need to I pull one out and let the universe help me decide what to focus on!” Jean’s Insight “My trajectory in the new year....I'm changing my teaching patterns up and also movement and nutrition to healthy aging. Adding regular walking and two days of strength training. For my love and self I need more regular practice of yoga. I pledge to finish my homework for Julianna LaRochelle 300 hour and graduate. I want to find a place for me at HOR. I'm going to try to get my son in med school to start a group yoga for brain health med students at HOR.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>Yoga Teacher Training Personal Experience Sharing a personal account from a student currently in our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training: “I’ve most enjoyed learning the foundations and philosophy of yoga before fully stepping into the asanas. Understanding how to thoughtfully structure a sequence — from movement and imagery to breath and meditation — has deepened my appreciation for yoga and for teachers. The training has also had a powerful impact on my personal practice, especially off the mat, as the reflections and discussions continue to shape how I move through daily life. One of the biggest surprises has been learning about the connection between sound and the chakras, which has sparked my creativity as a musician and inspired me to explore weaving music and Hawaiian culture into my future yoga offerings.” Does this sound like something you would like to explore? Registration is open for our next 200 hour yoga teacher training that starts in March. The commitment? Only 1 weekend a month for 6 months. Then, you’ll be a certified 200 hour yoga teacher. You can take what you learn with you into how you lead your life, you don’t necessarily have to do this to teach yoga. Ready? Follow the link below to sign up and get $500 off with our early bird.</image:caption>

Our teachers explain the importance of breath and meditation and how it’s personally affected them. *How has breath affected you? Send your response to 210-902-8337 for our scavenger hunt. Cyndi Breath is the quiet power at the heart of yoga, the invisible thread that weaves movement, awareness, and intention into a living practice. With every inhale, we invite space, energy, and possibility into the body; with every exhale, we soften, release, and let go. More than a biological function, breath becomes a guide—steadying the mind, calming the nervous system, and anchoring us in the present moment. I use simple, daily breath anchors to stay grounded: alternate-nostril breathing before rising to balance my nervous system (especially since one nostril is usually more congested than the other), long soft exhales to chill out when cut off in traffic or stressed at work, and humming or Brahmari breath at stoplights to naturally settle and reconnect with the present. These small, conscious breaths act as an internal detox for body, mind, and emotions, turning ordinary moments into opportunities for calm and clarity. When breath leads, life follows with ease, clarity and calm.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Sara One of the simplest and most powerful tools I return to again and again in my prenatal yoga practice is the breath. Long before I was teaching yoga, I was fascinated by how our nervous system responds to safety, rhythm, and reassurance. Over time—both personally and through working with pregnant students—I’ve seen how breathwork and meditation can quietly support not just the body, but the emotional experience of pregnancy as well. Breath doesn’t ask us to do more. It invites us to soften, slow down, and come back to ourselves. Especially during pregnancy, when so much is changing, this can feel grounding and reassuring. In my own life and in my classes, I’ve noticed that consistent breathwork and gentle meditation can: Create a sense of calm and steadiness, even during uncertain or uncomfortable moments Help release physical tension, particularly in the jaw, shoulders, and belly Build body awareness and trust—an important foundation for life’s scenarios Offer a familiar anchor students can return to during stress or moments of overwhelm Support emotional regulation What surprises many people is how quickly the body responds. Even a few slow breaths can shift the way we feel. To read more, click the link below. Juliet Breathwork and meditation offer profound benefits for both the mind and body. Through intentional breathing, we can calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and create space to respond to life with more ease rather than reactivity. Meditation helps us cultivate mindfulness, emotional balance, and a deeper sense of inner peace. Together, these practices strengthen our connection to the present moment, support mental clarity, and build resilience through life’s challenges. With consistent practice I believe breathwork and meditation become powerful tools for healing, grounding, and personal growth both on and off the mat.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Lando We live in a world of constant pings where our phones and our schedules demand our attention every waking second. It’s easy to spend the whole day in a low-grade state of panic, trapped in a fight or flight response that we didn't even realize was triggered. When our nervous systems stay on high alert, we aren't just tired, we’re reactive, our thinking is foggy, and we’re physically drained by a constant drip of stress hormones. I found a way to break that cycle through Somatic Breathwork. It’s not just about relaxing it’s about retraining your body to find its own way back to a quiet, rational state without you having to force it. Since I started this practice, I’ve seen it change how I handle my job and, more importantly, how I show up for my family. I’d love for you to experience that shift with me. Join me every other Sunday at 7 PM to hit the reset button and start your week with a little more space to breathe.</image:caption>

But, do YOU know the unique history of each It’s fascinating! Let’s dive in. Yoga There’s actually nothing in writing that talks about WHEN yoga began. For so long, it was passed from teacher to student verbally. If we look to physical evidence in India, we will find artifacts that date back to around 2500-1900 BCE. These artifacts show what we’re more familiar with and what is taught vastly in the United States, yoga as movement. Then around 200-400 CE, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras was inscribed. The evolution of yoga included many facets - 8 limbs - Ashtanga. These 8 limbs are still taught as part of yoga teacher training and include - asana (movement), pranayama (breath work), dhyana (meditation), philosophy with yama and niyama, pratyahara (sense withdrawal), dharana (concentration), samadhi (concentration and absorption). As you can see, it’s quite a deep practice.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Yoga continued to evolve. Many different types of yoga came into existence. You may have heard of some - Kundalini, Bhakti, Tantra, Hatha are among many. To the left here is an example of an artifact in India. Yoga translates to yoke or union. It is a joining together of body and mind. Pilates Similar to yoga, Pilates began as a connection of mind and body. Joseph Pilates developed Contrology in the early 20th century. A sickly child, Joseph found many ways to make himself stronger, healthier and this included many forms of movement including yoga. During WWI, he took Contrology to bedridden patients and used the springs in the beds to help rehabilitate and strengthen them. He moved from Germany to the United States in the 1920s and opened his first studio in New York City.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Growing Together In the 1960s, Yoga and Pilates both gained popularity in the US with celebrity endorsement. After Joseph passed, many of his students banded together and ‘Contrology’ became Pilates. Bolstered by Indian yogis like Iyengar and Jois, yoga journeyed onto US soil. The evolution of both practices has continued since. Yet the roots remain, the emphasis on breath, movement, concentration and grounding. What’s your jam? <image:caption>Latihan Temple of Sacred Surrender There is a moment — just as the light is quickly fading— when you can feel your body anticipating something it doesn’t yet understand. The breath begins to slow. The edges of the room soften. The mind looks for choreography… and finds none. Latihan invites us to ask the question: What happens when we remove the mirror? When we remove the performance? When we remove being seen? The practice of Latihan is believed to have begun in ancient Indonesia many thousands of years ago as a form of body-based prayer and meditation. Devotees practiced this form of prayer by withdrawing all the external senses, save the interoceptive, the inner knowing. In the dark inner sanctum of the Self, movement may arise like headwaters, spontaneous and energy-led. The purpose of the movement in my view was to connect to the will of God through the body. To be summoned by the Divine, and to respond with movement. This experience begins with guided breathwork to settle and attune the nervous system. From there, participants are invited into a sacred ritual practice of blindfolding. Then we step off the mat, and into the Temple.</image:caption>

<image:caption>As our gaze turns inward, our present moment awareness shifts, and our bodies flow more deeply into the current of moving meditation. Amidst an immersive musical soundscape, we explore what breath wants to be breathed through us? What movement wants to move through us? Without sight, awareness shifts. The body becomes less about form and more about sensation. Movement arises not from the mind, as cognition, but from the spirit, as inspiration. This is not about finding a partner in the dark...It is not about being alone. Nor is it about getting it right. It is an invitation to remove a veil of illusion, and meet yourself without a mirror. An exploration rooted in the principles of classical Tantra, this foundational Temple gathering explores embodied surrender, consent, and presence. Participants are guided clearly and respectfully. No partner is required. No previous experience with tantra is necessary. Sovereignty and choice are central to the container. Some may find the practice expansive. Some may find a growing edge. Most will find it unexpectedly revelatory. This is the first Temple of Sacred Surrender at House of RhythOM — a beginning. A threshold. A space to explore what lives beneath habit and choreography. If you have ever been curious about who you are in the absence of being watched… If you have wondered what it feels like to move from your source, from the headwaters of the Self instead of the expectation of others…If you are ready to hear what only the soul can understand, and only the body can translate… The Temple doors are open. March 28 6-8pm House of RhythOM, San Antonio Limited capacity Participation Agreement and Consent (link below) Come as you are. Leave with a deeper conversation unfolding inside you. Keep reading for our Scavenger Hunt Teachers’ Talk Yoga reaches people in many different ways. Some find yoga based on a recommendation after an injury. Some initial turn to yoga as a way of self-healing. And some fall in love with the movement of yoga first. Read on for how yoga found our teachers. Nasreen Yoga entered my life as a seed planted by an encyclopedia entry. As a child, on a whim, I was looking through an encyclopedia in my grandparents’ basement and found ‘yoga’. I knew at once that whenever I had the opportunity, I wanted to do yoga. Years later, I enjoyed Pilates regularly on Tuesdays and Thursdays at a big box gym. My instructor informed us all on a Thursday after class that starting the following Monday, she would be teaching yoga also. The seed bloomed. The practice brought me back to myself in a way I never quite expected. As I deepened into my practice, adding other aspects of yoga beyond asana, I discovered connection beyond myself. As the world around me shifted into the hustle of bustle of the holiday season, I witnessed compassion flow from my heart for those in the surrounding cars. Yoga is life-changing.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Gabby Yoga didn’t arrive in my life as a trend or a goal, it found me in a moment when I felt completely disconnected. I stepped into my first Bikram class in 2017 simply looking for something to hold onto. What I found was a kind of quiet discipline that began to rebuild me from the inside out. The repetition of the 26-posture sequence became a mirror, showing me both my resistance and my resilience. In the intensity of the heat, where my mind and body wanted to quit, I learned how to stay. Each class asked me to listen more deeply, to breathe through discomfort, and to trust that something steady existed beneath the chaos. I didn’t realize it at the time, but this was the beginning of coming home to myself. As my life briefly carried me to Denver, my practice evolved into something more fluid through vinyasa. Moving with my breath, flowing from one posture to the next, I began to experience yoga as a conversation rather than a challenge. Whether practicing outdoors with expansive mountain views or in quiet studios guided only by a teacher’s voice, I felt a new sense of connection, both inward and outward. When I returned to San Antonio, that connection deepened through community, music, and shared energy in each class. In 2023, I chose to become a teacher, not because I had mastered the practice, but because I was still being shaped by it. Teaching became a way to give back what yoga had given me: a path toward presence, healing, and wholeness. My intention is simply to hold space for others, just as yoga once held space for me.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Georgie I didn’t find yoga at the peak of my life, I found it when everything felt uncertain. As a teenager, I struggled deeply with anxiety and regulating my nervous system. Like many people at that age, I was searching for purpose, for identity, for a place where I felt like I truly belonged. I wanted connection and acceptance, but I kept looking for it outside of myself through other people, through fitting in, through trying to be who I thought I needed to be. And when that didn’t work, I went the other direction. I pulled away. I isolated. I rebelled. Somewhere along the way, I lost touch with myself completely. Everything paused when I was sent to rehab. With no distractions, I was left to face myself, and that’s where I found yoga. What started as reading yogic books turned into a daily practice. Every evening, I would move and breathe through sunset, and for the first time, I felt a sense of peace and connection within myself. When I returned to the outside world, yoga became my anchor. In the middle of chaos, it gave me a space to breathe, to feel, and to come back home to my body. Over time, it built resilience, confidence, and a deeper trust in myself. When life brought real loss and tragedy, yoga became more than a practice, it became a way to process, to grieve, and to heal. It taught me how to slow down. How to breathe through discomfort. How to soften instead of run. More than anything, yoga helped me reconnect, to myself, to others, and to something deeper. Now, teaching yoga is how I give that space back to others. I’m still growing, still learning, but I move through life with more awareness and compassion than I ever thought possible. Yoga didn’t fix my life. It gave me the tools to meet it.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Kayla My Yoga Journey: Everyone finds yoga during different times in their lives. For some it’s just a one off experience. For others, it’s completely life altering. Yoga found me when I needed it most. My life felt messy, claustrophobic, even pointless at times. I had the things that society tells you are important. The job, money, friends, partner. But inside, I was empty. Wearing a smile for those on the outside while suffering internally. My mental health in shambles, physical health not much better. Medicated, and coping as best as I possibly could. Then I took my first class. The experience was otherworldly. Not because of the setting, the music, or even community. It was the feeling I felt when it was over. Peace. I almost cried. Thinking I found the pot of gold on the other side of the rainbow. THIS is what I needed more of. One class turned into two, months turned into years. Taking classes turned into teaching, and now I have the greatest gift known to man. Now I share the practice that healed parts of me that I didn’t know existed. I can confront, cope, sit. Reflect, FEEL, experience in gratitude without judgement or abandon. Yoga changed me, as it has so many others before me. I owe my life to this practice. If you see bits of yourself in my story. Know that it gets better, but it is up to YOU to take the steps. Take the class. You never know where it may take you.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Yoga’s 8 Limbs - Pratyahara Traveling more into the depths of yoga... in the coming months, you will embark on a journey that unravels the facets of yoga in all of its beauty. Last month, we talked a bit about yoga’s history. This month, we will start to dive into the 8 limbs of yoga. You may mostly acquainted with Asana - the movement. We are going to talk this month about Pratyahara. Pratyahara means withdrawal from sensory stimulation. Prati meaning against or away and ahara meaning food, nourishment, or anything we take in. When we explore how we process the world as humans, we rely a lot on our senses - sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. We dive deeply into trusting our emotions and thoughts as truths. What Pratyahara invites the yogi to do, is to turn away from the distractions around us -whether that be encouraging nourishing our body with foods closest to whole form and surrounding ourselves with those that lift us or finding time to completely withdraw from sensory experiences to tap into the witnessing mind. This mind allows you to witness without engaging, to be present and still. Meditation can draw you in. What step can you take to reduce distractions in your life? Let me know for this month’s scavenger hunt. Text Nasreen at 210-902-8337.</image:caption>
